STATEMENT OF REPRESENTATIVE LANE EVANS (D-IL), RANKING DEMOCRATIC MEMBER OF THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS
Washington,
D.C. – I want to congratulate law enforcement for their efforts to find the
stolen VA laptop containing sensitive and personal information of nearly
26.5 million veterans and military personnel. I, like all of my fellow
veterans, hope that officials will determine that the data has not been
compromised. However, today’s announcement does not relieve the Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) from fixing its broken data security system and
failed leadership, nor should it delay Congress from moving forward to pass
legislation to protect the private information of veterans and all
Americans.
