hearings on VA's contaminated equipment.

The VA is now reporting 50
veterans have tested positive for viral infections from possibly
contaminated equipment used for endoscopic procedures.
This includes another case of
HIV.
There appears to be a small but
steady climb in the number of infected veterans as more are
contacted and submit to testing.
For the latest numbers of
infected veterans at the involved VA facilities:
Coming up: Hearings by the
House and Senate Committees on Veterans Affairs.
It
seems like every panel Member wants a piece of the VA's rear
because of the contaminated equipment and the, apparently,
resulting infections.
The House hearing is scheduled
for June 16, and all the information is available on this page ...
Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
Endoscopy Procedures at the VA: What happened, What Has Changed?
The Senate hearing is scheduled
for June 24, and all the information is available on this page ...
Oversight of VA Quality Management Activities.
You will notice that no
witnesses are listed at this time. But, it is known that VA
officials from the "offending" facilities will be on the hot seat.
Also expect the usual assortment
of experts.
At this time, it is not known if
the Veterans' Service Organizations (VSOs) will ask for testimony
time.
What we can expect is outrage
from the politicians as they slap the VA's hand ... the VA will be
contrite and promise to never let this happen again ... and both
sides will claim they have done everything possible to protect
veterans in the future.
But, there will be no ongoing
oversight from Congress and VA will be free to monitor themselves.
We will see two good shows (both
are to be web cast) and that's about it.
