I've been getting lots of emails asking:  What's happening with the VA shredder scandal?  All shredder scandal info here...

Well, now we have one answer.

There's going to be a hearing on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.  No time is given, but hearings usually start at 10am EST.  The hearing will be in Room 334 of the Cannon House Office Building.  No info is given about a webcast... but there should be a live feed.

The hearing will be held by the House Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs.

This will be a formal hearing, not a roundtable like the one that was held by the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.  I know that Chairman Bob Filner (D-CA) likes the roundtable format.  But, I prefer a hearing where we have testimony not just a discussion.

Also, this may be a hint that the VA's Office of Inspector General report about shredding may come out before the 25th so it can be used at the hearing.

The Subcommittee is Chaired by Rep. John J. Hall (D-NY) who has a great rep as a friend of veterans.

Here is the jurisdiction of this Subcommittee:

Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs, which shall have legislative, oversight and investigative jurisdiction over compensation; general and special pensions of all the wars of the United States; life insurance issued by the Government on account of service in the Armed Forces; cemeteries of the United States in which veterans of any war or conflict are or may be buried, whether in the United States or abroad, except cemeteries administered by the Secretary of the Interior; burial benefits; the Board of Veterans' Appeals; and the Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims.

We'll post more information about this hearing as we get it.
