Vets Not Thrilled With New WI Military Plates

By Jay Sorgi

Wisconsin is instituting new military license plates for veterans, but some veterans aren't thrilled with the new look.

On the old plate, there are words to demarcate the war in which a veteran fought.

On plates that veterans started receiving in July, those words are gone, and they're replaced by the word 'Wisconsin' in a larger font.

That was done to make it easier for police and sheriffs to see that the vehicle comes from Wisconsin.

The old plate is also red, white and blue, while the new plate has an all-white background.

VFW Quartermaster Steve Lawrence tells the Journal Sentinel that he prefers the red, white and blue to make it easier for people to recognize veterans who served them.

Black River Falls Republican representative Terry Musser has put a bill into the Legislature to bring back the old plates, and to have the Department of Veterans Affairs give written permission before any changes happen again on the plates.
