"BLUE WATER NAVY" BILL APPEARS TO BE DEAD IN THE WATER -- Capitol Hill insiders say S. 2026, which would roll back decisions favorable to veterans, has virtually no chance of getting out of Committee.
Story below: ------------------------- Last month, President George W. Bush presented a bill (S. 2026) to the Senate for submission. The bill was submitted as a "courtesy" by Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. It is now before the Committee. S. 2026 would roll back legal decisions and VA agreements that would have allowed "Blue Water Navy" veterans to receive full benefits for exposure to Agent Orange. This Court case goes on, as the VA has appealed pro-veteran decisions, with more arguments coming shortly. For background on the "Blue Water Navy" issue
and S. 2026, use the VA Watchdog search engine...click here... But, there is good news. Capitol Hill insiders tell me there is virtually no chance this bill will ever get out of Committee. It appears Sen. Akaka will not even give it a hearing. There is no support among the Majority Members of the Committee. And, there appears to be little, if any, support among the Minority Members. This is very good news for "Blue Water Navy" veterans. To read S. 2026, use Thomas and enter bill
