AS BELLIGERENT AS EVER, REP. STEVE BUYER CONTINUES TO PRESS ANTI-VETERAN AGENDA -- Buyer is still trying to sell his ridiculous theory that the VA's "core constituency" is ONLY "disabled and indigent" veterans.
Story below: ------------------------- After the 2006 election, Rep. Steve Buyer (R-IN) found himself no longer the Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. He stayed on the Committee with the title of Ranking Minority Member. I had hoped he would crawl back under his rock and let the Committee get down to work and pass some meaningful legislation. I miscalculated. Buyer is as mean as ever and doing everything in his power to obstruct the workings of the Committee. You can find some interesting reading about
Buyer (with backlinks) here... Buyer continues to press an agenda that is truly anti-veteran. He claims the VA's "core constituency" is ONLY "disabled and indigent" veterans. Where did he get this. He made it up. And, he uses this claim to pit veteran against veteran by saying that if veterans outside his self-proclaimed "core constituency" receive VA care, then care for other veterans will be endangered. All this is outlined in his latest press
release. You can find that here...
http://www.vawatchdog The press release bears reading. It's amazing how Buyer can find justification to deny qualified veterans VA healthcare. Buyer's latest mindless rantings were brought on by a Committee hearing looking into the possibility of allowing enrollment of Priority Group 8 veterans once again. Priority Group 8 vets were barred from enrollment in the VA in January of 2003. The reason: Money! The VA claimed they couldn't afford to take care of all qualified veterans. Of course, there is a simple solution for this: Properly fund the VA. Then all qualified veterans will be able to get the benefits they have earned. But, Buyer will not address the issue of proper and full funding for VA healthcare. Buyer also talks about the "intent of Congress." This is code for: Congress really didn't know what they passed but I do. I think Congress was fully-aware of the veterans' legislation they passed. This is just Buyer's way of trying to rewrite the "intent of Congress" to fit his anti-veteran agenda. You know, this really is tiring. I've been writing about this wing nut for years. His rap doesn't change. And, the people of Indiana keep electing him. Maybe it's something in the water. The one piece of good news is that Buyer is no longer leading the House Vets' Committee. Now, he's just an obstructionist legislator who takes up Committee time and makes himself look foolish. -------------------------
