VETERAN FEELS BETRAYED BY VA -- VA says

"holiday schedule" is the reason vet has

Vet Feels Betrayed

Bill Mintz crawled through the jungles of Vietnam.

He was left disabled from exposure to agent orange and hasn't worked since coming home.

For the past three decades, he has lived as a disabled veteran depending on the Hampton V. A. hospital for his medical needs.

Right before Veterans Day 2006, Bill broke his leg and after getting out of the hospital he thought the VA would be there with a wheelchair and walker so Bill could get out of the house.

"I thought everything was set when I went home. That the thing would be delivered the next day," he said.

Two weeks later, Mintz is still waiting for the equipment to arrive.

With his leg in a cast, Bill is unable to get to his dialysis appointments twice a week.

He has been able to borrow a wheelchair for the moment and enlisted the help of a nephew, but still wants to know why the VA has not yet delivered his chair.

"This is my primary care." "I'm a disabled vet I assume the hospital was made for guys like me," he said.

A spokesman for the VA says the request for a wheelchair was processed before New Years, but holiday schedules have backed up the delivery process.

The VA says the wheelchair should arrive by the end of the week.

It's left Bill disappointed and worried that other vets have even bigger problems with benefits they are entitled to after sacrificing so much for the country.
